The government has just released the September 11th investigation. A $64 book in print, it is available for download at GPO Access for free.
We had something on Wednesday the twelfth. When I gave up on staring at my ceiling, and got out of bed that morning, everywhere I looked when I walked into work had a flag. _New Yorkers_ were polite. Everyone talked to everyone else. There was universal understanding that morning. I wasn't the only one to notice the strange change that had occurred overnight in New York. Judith Martin writes of it in "Star Spangled Manners." Of all the speeches I sat through numbly, it is Jon Stewart's "Daily Show" speech that stands out. Even though that unity did prove fleeting, we must work to get that feeling back. What can be better for our country than our children to learn the high price of anger, and the paltry fee of civility?
